Color Changing Milk Experiment

I love this experiment and the video! It works because the food coloring is less dense than the milk, so it stays suspended within the fat molecules. When the soap is introduced, it breaks up the fat and spreads it across the surface of the milk pulling the food coloring with it. Kids love seeing the awesome color ripples and will want to do it over and over again! Try using different types of dish soap and different types of milk to see which one has the coolest effects! This experiment can be used to help teach kids the effects of density.

Math Is Fun!

Growing up, math was always a pain. I never wanted to do the homework because it was never fun or interesting, it was always just a silent bunch of boring numbers. While creating a lesson plan for one of my classes this year I came across the web site Math is Fun! Math is Fun! is a website where kids can play games, do puzzles, and create on-line artwork using math. The whole website features different items that involve some sort of math or problem solving. Of course, my favorite thing to do on the website is play all the entertaining and slightly addicting games. =]

My Teaching Philosophy

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I believe it’s the potential impact that they can have on a child’s life if they choose to do so is what draws me in. I want to be the one that tells kids that they can be everything and anything they want to be when they grow up and giving them the education they need to do so. If they want to be a jungle boy when they grow up like my brother did, then they can be a jungle boy. These dreams and aspirations come from people instilling self confidence them and giving them the educational background they need to go far, people like teachers.
I believe that we must teach students and their parents that education should be a major priority in their lives and we must do this as early as possible. I also believe that we should spend more time teaching and less time assessing. When too much emphasis is placed upon the assessments themselves, students get forgotten.
Just as no two gorilla’s noses are alike, no two people learn the same way.  As a teacher it will be my job to discover the ways in which my students learn best and cater to their needs. At times it may be difficult to cater to all of them, but it is my duty to try. My goal is to provide a positive learning environment that will encourage students of all levels to explore and learn. I will show them that they can learn inside the classroom as well as outside the classroom. I believe that every student deserves respect and every students deserves to be treated well. I will prevent bullying by trying to instill a sense of community and civility towards all.
